Noooo way... surely not.....

I saw this news item on BBC

Why does Egypt have a high rate of road deaths?

Egypt has one of the highest rates of road deaths in the world, according to

the World Health Organization. Twelve thousand people are killed in Egypt road

accidents every year. Some blame the situation on careless driving, while others say

the real cause is the poor condition of Egypt's roads.
Sally Nabil reports from Cairo.

and given my last trip to Cairo....
I think I might know the reasons why....

For a country that had the wit and intelligence to build the Pyramids some
4,500 years ago whilst us Brits still lived in caves........on the drive back from Alex.....
in the car to the right of us, it appeared that a young child was driving
the car, until we realised the child was sitting on the drivers knee, and
the car to the left of us, the driver was watching a TV program with
the device strapped over his rear view mirror.....
oh how times have changed in Egypt......

watching the telly...whilst a 5 year old takes a turn at the wheel perchance ?

Seeing as my post about Egypt was about the effect ships have upon me, it was with some professional interest I watched the news reports upon the shipping matters very close to home.... first there was the sinking of the Cement ship Cemfjord ..... it seems almost too obvious to say the tragic loss of all on board....

I see little hope for survival .... and that seems to be the way for bulk carriers... it's not like in Hollywood movies, where they spend a whole movie getting rescued from the slowly sinking ship..... shit no..... bulk carriers can get overwhelmed by a single wave... and that's it... if you're on board you are bolloxed......

The Bibby Line vessel, The Derbyshire went down on 9th September 1980 with all hands lost ...... 42 crew members and 2 officers wives dying that day......

Far less tragic but nevertheless, just as dramatic is the latest sight seeing attraction off the Isle of Wight....... The Hoegh Osaka....

That is a quite an image, seeing a ship of that size well and truely beached... Not sure the owners or skipper are so keen on the drama of it though..... I suspect much of the cargo of the cars and construction equipment maybe buggered.... but they should be able to get the ship upright soon enough.....

I am not sure if the skipper is a....
 I am kloot fan.....

I am though.....
